Our 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has an opaque crimson color with a purplish hue. The alluring nose draws you in with notes of cassis, black cherry, pipe tobacco, salted caramel, cocoa beans and fresh strawberry. This full-bodied wine enters with a depth of flavor and offers mouth-coating, velvety tannins and flavors of cream soda and red fruit. Black currant and vanilla notes crescendo through the palate to the lengthy finish. This wine is drinkable upon release, but given proper cellaring conditions can be enjoyed through 2040.

Blending and Aging

Our 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is comprised of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11.6% Merlot, 6.7% Cabernet Franc, 2.1% Petit Verdot and 1.6% Malbec. It was blended in early 2015 and aged for 24 months in 84% new American oak and 16% one-used American oak barrels from our Missouri cooperage, The Oak. Early blending assures a balanced core and allows all components to achieve a seamless harmony during barrel aging. It was then aged for an additional 20 months in bottle before being released in February of 2019.

Vintage Description

The 2014 vintage was early and exciting. Record breaking dry weather marked the winter months. Warm spring temperatures led to earlier than normal budbreak. Drought conditions were relieved by storms in late February and early March, which coincided perfectly with vines coming out of dormancy. The remainder of the spring and summer were slightly hotter than normal with very few heat spikes and only three days with highs in the triple digits. This set the state for ideal ripening conditions and wonderful flavor development in the berries. The first of our Napa Valley fruit from our Soda Canyon Ranch vineyard arrived at the winery on August 28. Harvest continued at a moderate pace, and the last grapes were harvested on September 29. While mother nature made her voice heard with the continued drought, the 2014 vintage proved to be otherwise manageable with conditions rife for producing wines of exceptional quality.
