Seize the Day and Make Your Own Traditions
We love this bottle story from Kirby Rusnak, whose enthusiasm for creating new traditions after a cross-country move captures the spirit of our favorite saying: “Life is a Cabernet!” Kirby and her husband Ryan remind us all to seize the day and make the most of each moment.
“Silver Oak made celebrating during our first year in California more special than I could have imagined.” – Kirby Rusnak
My husband and I moved to San Diego from the D.C. area in the summer of 2015. That Thanksgiving was our first holiday away from family. We decided to not let the distance get us down and started our own tradition celebrating Thanksgiving in Napa as we both love wine and ambiance.
During our trip, a friend took us to Silver Oak. We were blown away by the space, the vibes, and of course the wine. We were having a wonderful time tasting (drinking) wine and enjoying great conversation, when an employee brought out the 2006 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon to try. What luck! This year holds a special place in our hearts as it is the year we fell in love. We would celebrate our 10-year anniversary in just a few months.
On a whim, we bought the 2006 and stored it away until it was time to celebrate our anniversary. We took the bottle down to the beach by our home (where I snapped this picture) and started another tradition. We saved the bottle and will be going back to Silver Oak this Thanksgiving to keep our new California tradition alive.
Silver Oak made celebrating during our first year in California more special than I could have imagined. We’re loving every second of it.
