Why the 2015 Vintage Won’t Be Around for Long
The 2015 vintage from the Alexander Valley will be remembered as producing Cabernet Sauvignon of exceptional quality—small berries with great concentration—and low yields. Due to a cool spring that impacted quantity but not quality, the grapes were beautifully bold in both aroma and flavor. Clusters were also long and loose for ideal ripening. The resulting wines are fresh, vibrant and compelling.
Maroon in color with a garnet hue, our 2015 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has an enticing nose of maraschino cherries, blackberry bramble and brisket with notes of clove and star anise. This wine has a juicy entry and a fruity mid-palate with toasted vanilla and roasted brown sugar character from American oak barrels.
“2015 is an outstanding vintage—elegant and expressive. We only wish we could have made more.” –Nate Weis, winemaker
2015 was also a year when we increased our commitment to American oak. We acquired full ownership of The Oak cooperage in Central Missouri. This allowed our winemaking team to exercise more precise control of our barrel program. Nate and his team have since begun hands-on experiments in stave wood aging and barrel toasting.
Keeping with our philosophy of continuous improvement, we broke ground on our Alexander Valley Winery in 2015. The project, which is now LEED Platinum certified by the U.S. Green Building Council, has advanced the way we make our beloved Alexander Valley Cabernets while supplying high-quality estate fruit from renowned soils.
You’re invited to taste our first release from the 2015 vintage with the debut of our 2015 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Join us for Release Day at our Napa Valley Winery in Oakville on August 3, 2019.
