Wine Enthusiast Reviews our 2008 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Steve Heimoff of the Wine Enthusiast writes:

“It’s easy to see why Silver Oak remains so popular with the restaurant crowd. It’s made in a more restrained style than many other Napa Cabs. There’s plenty of berry and currant fruit as well as oak, but it’s accompanied by tobacco and herbs that give the wine an earthiness. What the wine lacks in dazzle it more than makes up for in elegance and subtlety. Should develop well for at least a decade.”

Wine Enthusiast Reviews our 2008 Napa Valley Merlot

Steve Heimoff of the Wine Enthusiast writes:

“Made with a drop of Cabernet Franc, this Merlot is rich, smooth and bone dry. With modest alcohol, it brims with flavors of black and red currant, licorice, anise and white pepper, as well as a subtle touch of sweet, smoky new oak. The grapes come from the cool Soda Canyon area of Napa Valley, at the base of Atlas Peak.”

Wine & Spirits Magazine Selects our ’08 Alexander Valley Cabernet As One Of "Year’s Best Cabernet Sauvignon"

Our 2008 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has been included in Wine & Spirits Magazine’s “Year’s Best Cabernet Sauvignon” article! Joshua Greene of Wine & Spirits Magazine says,

“Like a savory claret pumped up on performance-enhancing California climate, this is nuanced and relatively austere for all its bold, plumy fruit. The supple richness of tannins lends it textural finesse, the quality of Silver Oak that may be most responsible for its legend. The alcohol is finely integrated so as to be imperceptible. Still youthfully floral, this will age with grace.”

Wine Enthusiast Magazine Reviews our 2008 Alexander Valley
Cabernet Sauvignon

Steve Heimoff of the Wine Enthusiast says,

“This lovely wine shows the soft tannins and herbaceousness you often find in Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignons. That dried herb taste accompanies blackberry and black currant fruit. It’s classic Silver Oak, dry and elegant. Drink now – 2016.”

Jon Bonné of SFGate.com Praises Our 2010 Bien Nacido Pinot Noir

In Jon Bonne’s article in SFGate.com “A Thanksgiving splurge: Santa Barbara Pinot Noir” he writes:

“Winemaker Ben Cane's efforts at Silver Oak's sister winery have mostly been focused up north, but here they reach farther afield. Polished and a bit sweet, this takes Bien Nacido's rich fruit and matches it with wonderful acidity and a roasted-spice aspect that never pushes into the cola realm. Light on its feet, and very much in line with Twomey's current style.”

The New York Times’ Eric Asimov said “(Twomey’s) 2009 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir was one of our favorites, bigger and softer but with both finesse and intensity.”

2006 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine and Spirits Magazine, December 2011 Issue - Year’s Best Cabernet Sauvignon and Blends
During a blind tasting, Joshua Greene ranked our 2006 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon as one of the year’s best Cabernet Sauvignons. “This is a dark-fruited and floral ’06, with more of the tobacco and green herb character than most growers in Napa Valley allow Cabernet to express. This varietal character adds complexity and firm structure to a rich and sleek wine. Cellar it for several years to let the oak integrate into fruit, then serve with prime rib.”

The Tasting Panel’s Meredith May selected our 2006 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon as one of her Publisher’s Picks of the Month and gave it three and a half lips!

“I gave the Silver Oak 2006 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon an enthusiastic thumbs-up!” – Robert Whitley

2007 Alexander Valley Cabernet

“An amazing effort, the sultry and thoroughly enticing ’07 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet steps up to the plate in a most serious manner; long, with sweet tannins in the end.”
– Wilfred Wong, Cellarmaster at Beverages and More

“Bright, full red-ruby. Musky blackberry, tobacco, tar and chocolate on the nose, plus a note of dill. Plum, raspberry and tobacco flavors are intensified by sound acidity, with the musky quality carrying through in the mid-palate.”
– Stephen Tanzer

The Prince of Pinot Praises Our 2009 Pinot Noirs

William "Rusty" Gaffney, M.D., also known as the “Prince of Pinot”, is the creator and writer for PinotFile, an online newsletter that was the first wine publication exclusively devoted to Pinot Noir.

Gaffney recently visited Twomey in Healdsburg and tasted with our President and CEO David Duncan and Director of Winemaking Daniel Baron. From his response, it appears Gaffney is just as pleased with the quality of our 2009 Pinots as we are. “I was struck by the improvement in the wines compared to the last few vintages,” Gaffney said. “it is evident that Baron and Cane are dialing it in.” He later mentions that our 2009 Bien Nacido Vineyard Pinot Noir is “a love letter from heaven.”
