From working in small, fine dining restaurants in Boston to helping open the giant Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas, Michael Burton has a wide range of wine industry experience that serves him well in his role as Silver Oak’s southwest regional manager. Michael’s 17 years in wine includes both distributor/supplier management and restaurant work; he was a key account manager with Wirtz Beverage in Las Vegas and spent a decade with Wilson Daniels, Ltd. representing some of the greatest wines from around the world prior to joining Silver Oak.
One of Michael’s favorite wine quotes is from Gerald Asher, author and longtime wine writer for Gourmet magazine: “Wine is not described by pH or flavors of green olives, but by People, Places, and Time.” Indeed, Michael loves nothing better than introducing a customer to a Silver Oak or Twomey wine and watching them have that “Aha” moment. Michael recently passed his Court of Master Sommelier’s Certified Sommelier Exam, a one-day exam given in three segments: a blind tasting of two wines, a written theory examination, and a practical service examination.
