Press Release: Silver Oak Cellars to Celebrate Grand Opening

Wednesday, January 14, 2009
Location: Oakville, California

Celebrating the Grand Opening of its new Oakville winery and the long-awaited release of the 2004 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Silver Oak Cellars will hold simultaneous Release Day festivities at both its Oakville and Geyserville wineries on Saturday, February 7th from 9am to 3:30pm. In Oakville, foods prepared by winery chef Dominic Orsini and other Napa Valley chefs, bottle signings, art displays and on-site painting by renowned artist Thomas Arvid will awaken guests’ senses. Geyserville attendees will enjoy wine country cuisine, and in both locations live music, library tastings and plenty of fine wine throughout the day promise to make the first Silver Oak Release Day of 2009 bigger and better than ever.

“With the opening of our new Oakville winery last Fall, we decided this Release Day should be a big celebration, a Grand Opening if you will,” says Silver Oak President David Duncan, who also notes that February 7th will be the last time people can place a note or photograph in the Oakville winery’s time capsule, which will be buried following the event. “It’s our way of thanking the folks who’ve been so faithful to us during our reconstruction after the 2006 fire, and of welcoming everyone to our new home.”

Silver Oak’s Release Days, held twice a year to celebrate the release of the winery’s Napa Valley and Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignons, have become something of a legend in both Napa and Sonoma. Beginning in the mid-1990’s when people started waiting outside Silver Oak’s tasting room door to be among the first to taste the newly-released wine, the events, always held simultaneously in both Oakville and Geyserville, have evolved to attract hundreds – and sometimes thousands – of wine lovers from all over the country.

“I think part of what makes Release Days so special, besides the fact that we get to taste a wine no one outside the winery has had before, is that they’re very personal to us,” comments Tim Duncan, executive vice president. "The entire winery is there -- our family, our winemakers, our hospitality and marketing folks. It’s our chance to re-connect with old friends and make the acquaintance of new ones.”

Winemaker Daniel Baron is particularly excited about the release of the 2004 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. “I remember working very diligently on the 2004 blend and experiencing an epiphany when we achieved the perfect balance of elements,” says Baron, who believes strongly in blending before barreling. “I still taste that balance in the wine today.” He also looks forward to Release Day guests tasting the 1999 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine he says is “a great vintage at a perfect point in its evolution to show the richness and balance of Silver Oak wines.”

The February 7th Release Day is open to the public for a tasting fee of $30 per person, which includes a complimentary Silver Oak wine glass. Locations for the event are: 915 Oakville Crossroad in Oakville and 24625 Chianti Road in Geyserville. More information can be obtained by calling 800.273.8809 or visiting www.silveroak.com.
